Planning that can make the difference
Adding users to an application or upgrading your hardware involves many stressful decisions. You can’t just spend your way out of performance problems blindly and remain profitable. Planning needs to be realistic—and accurate. You can find capacity planning tools to help you but most use mathematical formulas — accuracy to within about +/- 20% - not much better than guessing. With SightLine™ ForSight™ from INTELLiGENT SOLUTIONS, you can simulate performance with thousands of hypothetical hardware configurations. And ForSight's Discrete Event Simulation results in extremely tight confidence intervals of +/- 5% or less. With that kind of accuracy, you can plan for the futire with confidence.

Having the Right Data
Collecting the right data is a critical step in accurate planning. One of SightLine’s strengths is collecting thousands of relevant metrics and statistics from your business critical systems. In fact, INTELLiGENT SOLUTIONS has been perfecting collector technology for over 20 years. SightLine can collect CPU, Memory, I/O, Network, Workload-specific information, and much more.

Analysis Made Easy
How can you make sense of all this data to plan for the future? After SightLine has collected the data, ForSight enables you to combine measurements of an existing workload with the current and proposed configurations. Then ForSight runs simulations to generate very tight confidence intervals for the simulation results. You can also simulate workload/demand growth as well as new hardware configurations—all with data that was originally collected and used for performance management. ForSight even predicts the delay components for each transaction, such as CPU Service and Queuing, I/O Service and Queuing, Virtual Memory Delay, etc.

With This Kind of “What if?” Tool, the Question Becomes “Why Wait?”
ForSight builds on its analysis of enterprise systems through a powerful “what if?” modeling capability and comprehensive hardware knowledge base—containing specifications for many styles of CPU, disk and controller. You can even define new hardware components and their performance characteristics on the fly. For example, a systems architect could model database throughput and automatically perform an analysis between upgrading the server architecture or the storage subsystem.

Performance reports for the proposed configurations will be automatically generated for comparisons to the existing “baseline” model, easily illustrating the most cost-effective enhancement for your system.
